Here, compliments should be made to Emmy Rossum (who did absolutely great whether in singing or looking absolutlely fabulous), Gerard Butler (who rocked this character, sang with an edge) and also Patrick Wilson (who charmed his voice), the three main characters of the film. Some might say we can't compare it to the classic original who was played by Sarah Brightman (whom Lloyd Webber, her ex-husband, wrote this musical especially to her) and Michael Crawford. But I must mention that the three casts add an modern touch to this extravagant 1800s film. Yet, sadly, if Joel had made it better, rather to film it like an exclusively long MV, it wouldn't have been that cheesy. Truly, everybody should be amazed when the clip moves from black and white to colour in implication of travelling back in time, but I was truly disappointed when Christine sailed in the boat with Phantom. In the broadway muscial, this scene is one of the most significant and well-known episode, however, Joel have made the scene especially weak in nature. Even if the theme song, "Phantom of the Opera" was sung beautifully, there were no intensity between the two. Overall, this is a film worth to see but definitely the broadway version must have done a better job. Go back the soundtrack is a good recommendation where it really shows how the singers paid their effort.
